Carbon-Ukraine produces MXenes, two-dimensional transition metal carbides and carbonitrides, as an official MXene licensed partner of Drexel University, USA, where these materials were discovered. The license allows us to manufacture MXenes and MXene products for research and education and to supply them worldwide.
MXenes combine metallic conductivity with hydrophilicity, a large surface area, a versatile surface chemistry and a tunable flake size.
Available MXenes
Each MXene is supplied as a delaminated single-to-few-layer paste as standard, and in the other forms listed below on request. We synthesize the precursor MAX phase ourselves — see MAX phases.
| MXene | Made from MAX phase |
|---|---|
| Ti3C2 | Ti3AlC2 |
| Ti2C | Ti2AlC |
| Ti3(C,N)2 | Ti3AlCN |
| V2C | V2AlC |
| V4C3 | V4AlC3 |
| Nb2C | Nb2AlC |
| Nb4C3 | Nb4AlC3 |
| Mo2C | Mo2Ga2C |
| Mo2TiC2 | Mo2TiAlC2 |
| Mo2Ti2C3 | Mo2Ti2AlC3 |
| Ta4C3 | Ta4AlC3 |
Forms of supply
- Paste, delaminated or multilayered, in water or organic solvents
- Powder with particles from hundreds of nanometres to tens of micrometres
- Colloidal solution of delaminated single-layer flakes
- Thin film deposited on a substrate
- Freestanding film 3–100 µm thick, for electrodes or membranes
- Freestanding cold-pressed discs
Dispersions are prepared in deionized water or in NMP, DMF, DMSO or 2-propanol. We also make binder-free concentrated slurries and single-layer paste stabilized in 2-propanol, and select flake size ranges and surface functionalization to order.
MXenes for biomedical research
For research on cell–material interactions, conductive scaffolds, biointerfaces and light-activated therapeutic platforms we supply Ti3C2Tx, Ti3CNTx, Nb4C3Tx, Ta4C3Tx and Mo2Ti2C3Tx, and MXene-based composites:
- Electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) membrane coated with Ti3C2Tx
- Polydopamine-functionalized Ti3C2Tx for antibody immobilization
- Silk fibroin membrane coated with Ti3C2Tx
These materials are intended for research use.
Applications
- Energy storage — supercapacitor and battery electrodes
- Electromagnetic interference shielding for electronics and aerospace
- Catalysis — water splitting and hydrogen evolution
- Water purification — filtration and desalination membranes
- Biomedical research — biosensors, drug delivery, tissue engineering
- Flexible and wearable electronics
- Gas sensing for environmental monitoring
How we synthesize MXenes
MXene quality starts with the precursor. We synthesize the MAX phase ourselves and etch it on a pilot laboratory line equipped with etching reactors of our own design, which gives repeatable properties from batch to batch. Scaled-up synthesis is available. The etching reactor is described on Etching Reactor for MXene Synthesis.
The scaled-up process is described in our joint article with the Drexel University Nanomaterials Group: C. E. Shuck, A. Sarycheva, M. Anayee, A. Levitt, Y. Zhu, S. Uzun, V. Balitskiy, V. Zahorodna, O. Gogotsi, Y. Gogotsi, Scalable Synthesis of Ti3C2Tx MXene, Advanced Engineering Materials 22, 1901241 (2020), doi:10.1002/adem.201901241.
Order MXenes
The minimum order for Ti3C2 paste is 1 g. MSDS and certificate of analysis (COA) are available on request. Send the MXene, form, solvent and quantity to sales@carbon.org.ua and we will reply with a quote.
